Well, I'm already cheating...
I just got back from buying another car. I picked up an 82 Corolla Wagon TE72, 5 Speed, 3TC. It's been sitting for a while, but I'm hopeful it will come back to life. 150k on the clock, but I don't know if the speedo works, so I'll have to report back on that. I've never worked on the 3TC before, so I hope it's as easy as the 20R/22R? At least shes still a wagon, right? I'm planning on selling her when/if shes a good runner, but that was the plan with the Rona as well...I'll get pics up soon.

Yeah, 3TCs are simple, but also about gutless compared to the 2xR. We had a 'colla for a couple of years that we referred to as the POS. It always felt like driving a NASCAR car with a restrictor plate. We paid $375 for it, and bought it just to drive the wheels off of, as we were drivng about 50,000 miles a year. We sold it with the torque converter failing for $375 after almost 2 years and another 100,000 miles, so even if it was a POS, we got our usage and money out of it.

I picked this one up for $250 and I'm hoping to just get it running and flip it for a little more. Always fun working on these older cars!

I know it's not a Corona, but here is a preview of the Corolla wagon...

Shes got a little damage in the right front, but I'm trying to get parts as we speak. Hope to have her whole again soon.

Re: Well, I'm already cheating...
Here's some more pics. Also, I do have some questions for 3TC guys, I pulled the plugs and there was oil in each one. Am I correct to assume that the spark plug tube seals are bad or is there a bigger issue. I've only ever worked on 20R and 22R. Also, if anyone has the valve cover bolt torque specs, that would be great! Any advice is much appreciated!! Here are some pics. Not pretty, but better than being scrapped! Some of the pics are bad, it was getting dark and the phone flash didn't work too well...

Re: Well, I'm already cheating...
Got it running yesterday! I had to replace the starter (whose idea was it to put it under the exhaust manifold??) and valve cover gasket (I couldn't believe the crap that was under there!), add some coolant and prime the carb with gas. She fired right up! Won't idle and runs like crap, so I'm sure I have a carb rebuild in the near future. I'm starting to really like the 3TC! I hope to have some good tires and the carb going in the next few weeks (if we don't turn into a deep freeze up here).

Just sold my 3tc wagon, I had it for 16yrs and picked up an 80 corona wagon. I didnt know how dificult it was going to be to find parts for it. If you change the valve cover gasket it comes with 4 ring that go on the middle and prevent oil from leaking into the plugs.
