Post by antonio alvarado Tue Jan 24, 2017 10:13 am

Hi everybody,
I have a corona RT132 81, 18R
This is my first post and will very much appreciate if someone knows about the logic behind the carburetors solenoid valve. Is it in the engine wiring diagram?
I understand that it is energised for idle mode operation only, but i wonder what deenergises it and when. Normally it should close the idle loop (being de-energised) in order to save fuel during normal operation, out of idle.

Thanks in advance for any comment!

i believe it shuts gas to the carb when turning ignition off. so in theory it should be energized when the car is running and de-energized when key is off, closing the seal. Ill take a look at the wiring diagram, ill try to post it

Thanks a lot for the comments,

I have another carb-car, fiat tipo 94, and the logic for the solenoid valve is as follows;

For the start and idle operation it is energised, means retracted and the idle function (low power loop) open.

Then,

beyond 1.500 rpm and "power lever pushed" the solenoid is de-energised, means, not retracted and the idle loop closed, for fuel savings during normal operation/driving. For my Corona, there must be something similar, otherwise the electrical on/off wiring wouldn't make sense.

Today I installed pilot lamps in parallel to the solenoid fuel cut-off valve and automatic choke heater to check on/off operation, and I just could re-confirm that none of both shut down during normal driving/operation ?? that is why I must suspect that something is wrong in my wiring.

Thanks in advance for further comments / experiences.

Hi, here again,

I have found a wiring diagram from a corolla 82, which i think might apply for mi corona 81.
Well, it "says" the solenoid valve is energized all the time, for some reason.
I was mistaken by comparing a weber 94 carburetor with my 81...13 years of development difference...too bad :-)
In any case, I will try with a vacuum switch or similar to de-energise the solenoid when above, say 1,000 rpm, and check engine behavior and fuel consumption.

Cheers

Hi aisin carb users!

As commented in my former post, in did, i have mechanically "implanted" the misssing logic for the IDLE SOLENOID CUT-OFF VAVE, the name itself expands about its unfulfilled function, in my aisin carb 81.

I am very happy with my aisin carb, as i am with my weber in an italian car, two worlds apart with different character, and for sure none of them better than the other.

Pls have a look to following videos.

The first for the simple mechanismus that de-energices the solenoid when not in idle
mode. No need for idle flow comsumption when in higher load mode.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The second, showing the pilot lamp installed for solenoid function monitoring, for testing period only.

Hope the video-links work... and that this help to look at the good old aisin carb in all its potential.

I will be more than happy for critic or comments about this modofication

Cheers

Will be thankful for the diagram, because I want to recheck the whole wiring.

With regard to the aisin carb 2 wires, I could phisically reconfirm from above mentioned corolla 82 diagram, the following:

One of the wires is energized from the voltage regulator, only reason, been active by running engine. Make sense for the electrical choke...it wouldn't make sense to heat up this system when the engine is not warming up.

The second wire is energized by closing the key switch already, this one for the idle cut-off solenoid valve.

Comments after initial testing:

I could see that the solenoid valve works fine with the wire comming from the voltage regulator too. I have the choke completely removed, including shaft, for cleaner inlet air flow, so I am using this wire for the solenoid.
The reason is that it doesn't need to be energized in case you need power for testing of other systems.

Engine behavior is ok and fuel comsuption better. I will try next with on/off point at 1500 rpm, right now it is switching at 1000 rpm.

Hope this to be of any help!

Cheers
