Got a roof rack for my Corona...
Got it on Craigslist yesterday, man said it was from the late 60's, his dad had it on a VW. I like it.

Not that I don't like it, but what seems to be the fixation with roof racks recently? All of the boX (my joke for xBs) guys are throwing them on too.

Re: Got a roof rack for my Corona...
Lol, Ive seen more roof bike and ski racks over here on the Xb's, hondas etc, and of course the VW's but NEVER have I seen a magnificent specimen such as mine! lol. I saw the other member here with one and like the look, I just happen to come across it on C.L yesterday and took a drive to get it. Hey, it was only $30! Cant go wrong and the beauty is that it is totally removable, not bolted on or anything. Anyways, I see where you are coming from, though...

It looks okay, the price was great, and they are functional, but I just don't get it.
I took my factory rack off to clean up the lines and reduce drag (what - .125 MPG? lol), using button head stainless steel screws in the holes, and people tell me I should put it back on...

Re: Got a roof rack for my Corona...
haha, your saving tons of money with the reduced drag! I actually like the look on your years version, but its just a matter of personal taste. I think that euro look is in with most people but I just wanted some added extra on mine...and I just couldnt pass it up for the price, I could always flip it to a VW owner or something if I ever get bored of it. Hey, not that I have you on here, before I start manipulating things and tweaking things, do you know what would cause my passenger side front of hood to be slightly higher than the drivers side (check out the pictures above, its slight, but its there). I can slightly push down on that side and there is a slight space between the hood and rubber stopper. There is only one latch on this type of hood. Just thought Id ask, Im gonna be checking it out today. Thanks!

I drive about 40k a year, so it all adds up. That could be as much as 25 free miles!
I assume the prop rod goes to the left (drivers) side of the hood? If so, that wouldn't be related, so I'd guess the hood has a slight bend, but would have no idea of why. You might just try pushing down on the right and up on the left with the hood open and see if it can be bent back.

Re: Got a roof rack for my Corona...
Yeah, I was looking at it yesterday and it just looks like probably the hood is bent a little because I see nothing else that would be causing it. the drivers side is flush and passenger side is slightly raised. I suspect someone slammed the hood down while there was something obstructing the passenger side and bent a bit. No biggie, Ill try bending it back slightly and see what happens. Thanks!
