1975 Project help needed Empty 1975 Project help needed

Post by bowser Tue Feb 05, 2013 6:52 pm

I just picked up a 1975 corona. It is a one owner rig and is in very good condition other than the wreck it was in. I've never had a corona but had to jump at the chance to get such a clean rig. I have a large fleet of custom diesel Landcruisers, 4runners, tacomas, etc.. But want to restore this rig for an around town grocery getter. I've tried all my normal parts channels and come up empty. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. The rig is now in my shop in Bozeman MT. Here are a few pic's of what it looked like when I picked it up. Main thing I need to get it back on the road is a passenger side upper control arm. Body parts I need will be passenger fender and door.

Ouch! Is the upper control arm really the only piece damaged (other than the fender and door)? Otherwise, very clean car!

That interior is effin minty!

Something that might be worth looking into; I know that for some models of corona, the hilux has compatible suspension/engine parts.

Wagons are the most similar to picks up's too.

I've found an upper control arm. New ball joints as well. Once all those parts arrive later in the week I'll get it back on the road and then start the hunt for body parts. Fender and bumper first. I might be able to cut and fix the door. Any help with sheet metal would also be greatly appreciated. I'm going and try and get this thing back on the road and beautiful before summer.

The super clean interior is one of the reasons i had to get the rig. If I didn't it was going to be scrapped. Even though I'm a cruiser guy normally It would have been ashamed for a Toyota this clean to get crushed. One good thing I've found is its much cheaper to fix / restore one of these than I'm used to. Cruiser parts add another 0 at the end of everything.

Thanks for all the help so far

Got the new upper control arm on with new ball joints. The rig drives very tight and well. Now that I know it is a good runner I need to find the body parts. I've found some rusty parts in ID but looking for something else if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I don't find anything else in the next couple months I'll go the rusty route and fix the parts but would prefer not to. But I really want this thing beautiful and on the road to drive through Yellowstone on opening weekend. So I only have a couple months. I drive down there every year and have a new RTT that would look great on this things roof.

I put new tires on it as the ones that where on it looked almost new but were so old I could not trust them.

Thanks
